Mission StatementThe Hilde Holger Company – closed at the end of 2012 – was formed to preserve the legacy of the dancer, choreographer and educator, Hilde Holger. The Company seeks to expand public awareness of Holger’s groundbreaking work in the arts and her enduring influence on scores of contemporary dancers, choreographers, musicians, painters and photographers. Holger’s art, nurtured and refined in the West during the 1920’s, later extended to the East when war forced her to find refuge in India. In the third chapter of her life Holger became celebrated as an educator in England as well as a pioneering choreographer. While Holger was crossing national borders she was also transcending artistic and cultural boundaries. In all her endeavors she increasingly was guided by a spirit of inclusiveness, and it was her belief that dance education shouldn’t be limited to those who aspire to become professionals but that it could benefit everyone. In the 1960s, a vision generous enough to embrace people with both physical and learning disabilities.
